round selection by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1996 NHL Draft, Tomas Kaberle surprised many by joining the team in 1998-99, and soon was providing a strong offensive flair from the blueline, especially while quarterbacking the powerplay. By 2002, he was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game. His steady presence drew All-Star selection again in 2007. At the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, Tomas won the Accuracy Challenge. He defended his title again at the 2009 All-Star Game. On December 1, 2009, he earned his 459th
NHL point, and in doing so, passed Tim Horton for second on the Toronto Maple Leafs all-time scoring list for defenceman. Tomas was traded to the Boston Bruins in February 2011 and was a member of the Stanley Cup champions. He started the 2011-12 season with the Carolina Hurricanes, but finished the season, and ghis NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens. Born in the Czech Republic, Tomas represented his country at the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, taking the bronze medal in 2006. As a member of the Czech Republic National Team, Tomas won a gold medal in 2005 and silver in 2006.
