MIKE PALMATEER

One of the most popular goaltenders in Toronto Maple Leafs history, Mike Palmateer has joined the Scotiabank® Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer team!

A Toronto boy, Mike Palmateer was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1974, and made his NHL debut two years later. Known as ‘The Popcorn Kid,’ Palmateer’s acrobatic style was immediately embraced by the Maple Leafs’ faithful. The team, which also included Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald, Tiger Williams, Borje Salming and Ian Turnbull, was a player or two away from competing for the Stanley Cup before it was dismantled. In the purge, Palmateer was traded to the Washington Capitals, but returned to the Maple Leafs in 1982-83 for his final two NHL seasons. Mike played eight campaigns, consisting of 356 games. He won 149, lost 138 and was in goal for 52 ties during his career.
